Finally, it's starting! The construction of the D11 motorway near Trutnov begins on Friday.

To start, a three-kilometer section between Královec and Bernartice will be constructed to connect the facility with the Polish S3 express road. The construction was delayed for months due to issues with selecting the winner of the procurement process. It was only in April of this year that the press reported the project's start date had reached an impasse. Nevertheless, the difficulties were resolved in record time, as stated by Martin Kupka. Several issues arose, such as protests by ecological activists who previously obstructed the issuance of building permits. After the issue was resolved, ŘSD planned to launch the investment on December 19, exactly one year after the tender announcement. Originally, the Polish company Budimex SA would have been the winning construction company with its offer of 11.352 billion Czech crowns.

However, the start was halted two weeks before the designated date when a consortium led by MI Roads under the Metrostav Group protested the result. Although initially unsuccessful, their appeal to the Antimonopoly Office found traction. The decision on the winner of the tender participants was changed, prompting Budimex to appeal both the decisions of ŘSD and the Antimonopoly Office, to no avail. Hopes for the record-breaking order were dashed when, on October 4, Petr Mlsna, head of the Antimonopoly Office, rejected two objections submitted against the initial ruling. The following week, Radek Mátl, CEO of ŘSD, announced that an agreement had been signed with a Czech-Slovak-Hungarian alliance, and the long-awaited construction will begin on October 11. The Trutnov-Královec highway section will be 21.175 km long, connecting to the Polish S3 express road at the state border. The project includes the construction of 28 bridges spanning a total of 3.8 km, three grade-separated junctions, ten noise barriers, and the most challenging half-kilometer tunnels. Such a complex highway has not been built in the Czech Republic before, and the work will start on the three-kilometer section located in Královec. The Czech Republican National Road Authority faces significant challenges with this project, which our company is also involved in, marking one of the most significant projects in recent decades.

Now we must make the most of the remaining time before winter sets in. We've already started reorganizing the necessary production capacities," said Zdeněk Ludvík, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MI Roads. The first tunnel will be constructed under the Poříčský hill, and the other will look towards Zlatá Olešnice. One side will be 540 meters long, and the other 576 meters. The section extending from Trutnov to the state border will run parallel to road I/16. A significant bridge in the section between the tunnels will be built in the Poříčí district of Trutnov, measuring 715 meters in length and 30 meters in height. Among the impressive bridges, one stands out, spanning 670 meters in length and 47 meters high, crossing over the Ličná stream. Additionally, a third bridge between Bernartice and Lampertice will aim for the height of the Nuselák. On September 16, 2023, MI Roads began work on the D35 highway section between Sadová and Plotiště nad Labem in the Královéhradeci region, in collaboration with Doprastav and Duna Aszfalt, with a net value of 1.628 billion Czech crowns. Another notable development is that following the demolition of a well-known diner, the Krkonoši Brewery in Trutnov is embarking on a large-scale project.
