The Národná diaľničná spoločnosť (NDS) has launched a public procurement process for the construction of the D3 motorway section between Kysucké Nové Mesto and Oščadnica. The necessary documentation was prepared in a fast-track procedure within a few months, as announced in a press release. The section of the D3 motorway put up for tender between Kysucké Nové Mesto and Oščadnica will be over 9.6 kilometers long. This section is the middle part of the future Kysucká motorway, which stretches between Žilina and Čadca. The project's costs are expected to amount to 307 million euros excluding VAT, which is approximately 7.8 billion Czech crowns. The development will include the construction of 22 bridges, one intersection, one rest area, and an animal migration corridor.
"For us, the Kysucká motorway is the most important project today. The construction of D3 will help the region struggling with constant traffic problems. Furthermore, it will contribute to fulfilling Slovakia's international obligations as part of the Trans-European Transport Network," stated the NDS. This section will be the second of the three missing sections of the Kysucká motorway between Čadca and Žilina. The search for the designer and contractor for the first part, the Oščadnica – Čadca, Bukov, II. profile section, began in May. The tender for the third section, specifically the Žilina, Brodno – Kysucké Nové Mesto segment, is currently in the preparation phase. After the construction of the Kysucká motorway D3, it will also contribute to easing traffic between Třinec and Žilina. Its absence was partially addressed nearly four years ago by completing a six-kilometer section of the D3 motorway at Čadca, which mainly serves as a bypass route for the city, where peak-time congestion can cause delays of up to half an hour. Slovakia has opened a new motorway section in Kysucé heading towards the Czech border.
