Romania's new highway. A key connection on the east-west axis The National Environmental Agency released a memo containing further details about the construction of the A13 highway. According to the memo, the A13 highway between Brașov – Făgăraș will be a total of 50 kilometers long, running entirely through Brașov County. How much does the Brașov – Făgăraș highway cost the state? The total construction costs of the A13 highway are officially estimated at approximately 4.7 billion lei. The project affects five administrative-territorial units, including Codlea, Dumbrăvița, Șinca, Șercaia, and Mândra. The expected construction time is around 30 months. After analyzing various route alternatives, the green option was chosen, allowing for a design speed of 120 km/h and adapting to the surrounding hilly terrain. The highway junction included in the Sibiu – Făgăraș highway project The Sibiu – Făgăraș highway project includes the creation of a junction between highways, incorporating the Brașov – Făgăraș and Sibiu – Făgăraș highways, and ensuring a connection with DN1 road, thus providing efficient passage between the main traffic routes in the area. This junction facilitates the flow of traffic and improves access between highways and the national road network.

The Șercaia intersection is located at km 36+600 on the A13 highway route and at km 215 on the DN1 road, in a space bounded by DN1 and the railway line. The access highways are designed for a speed of 60 km/h, facilitating traffic flow and enhancing transportation safety in the region. "This highway section, along with the Sibiu – Făgăraș segment and the Ploiești – Brașov highway, establishes the standard highway route from Bucharest to Sibiu and further towards the Hungarian border once the current projects, like A1, are completed," states the document. The Brașov – Făgăraș highway, a crucial link on the east – west axis The new Brașov – Făgăraș highway brings significant improvements in national and regional connections, easing passage on the east-west axis, and contributing to increased road transport efficiency in Romania. By integrating the route into the European corridor, the connection between the western border and the Black Sea becomes much more accessible and efficient for freight and passenger traffic. The contract for the feasibility study and technical design necessary for the highway's implementation was signed in the summer of 2021, with partners including the consortium of Search Corporation – Protelco – Like Consulting – Mega Muhendislik Musavirlik. The contract amount is 18.17 million lei, and preparatory works for the section, including geotechnical surveys and studies of the optimal route, have already begun.
